Oamaru Stone and Softstone Carving and Building with Various Other Media

Koru (Oamaru stone)
First attempt at Oamaru stone carving.

Strawberry (concrete)
This quite-large opportunistic piece started its life as discarded concrete on a building site. Its natural shape demanded some colour be applied.

Bottle Shard (Plaster of Paris)
Cast as a whole bottle using a rotational-moulding technique. Then shattered and coated with metallic acrylic paint.

Untitled (Oamaru stone)
This work-in-progress is my first medium-sized carving of Oamaru stone.

Angel (softstone)
Softstone is a pleasure to work with. During the carving process (a window of about 6 hours)Â the texture changes from compressed sand to green concrete.

Flower (softstone)
Carved from a block of Softstone (comprising sand, cement, and vermiculite).
